I really don't like the Democratic spin on this whole thing. There is a growing consensus within the US and the Dems are taking advantage of it. That consensus is that "we have suffered enough and the Iraqis just aren't doing their part to secure their own country." That's bullshit. The Iraqis didn't make this mess. We did. It is our fault. Not theirs. We are going to leave because we are not willing to make the kinds of sacrifices that are necessary to secure the country. That is something that I can't argue with because I am in no hurry to deploy to Iraq. But I am at least willing to acknowledge that. I also know that this mess and all the messes that are inevitably coming down the line are the fault of exactly one country: the USA.
Pandering to the worst instincts of the American people is what passes for courage among the Democrats. We fucked up. We did a horrible thing. It is time that somebody had the courage to tell that to the country.
I hate to say it, but the problem with the Dems is that they don't have anyone independent enough to say what needs to be said. Even the GOP has Ron Paul who, crazy though he is on many issues, is still far saner than the average GOPer and willing to take a stand.
Why can't someone from a secure district come out and say it: "The USA screwed up horribly. It is our fault and its time we acknowledged it."

I agree. I think actually a large margin of people would be willing to hear it. However, that person would be just destroyed in the press.
