There was a piece in the NYT last week (cant find it now) about conservative engineering types in the Seattle area who are voting Democrat this upcoming election because of disatisfaction with the Republican party. The main issues are the huge debt that has been accumulated (lack of fiscal responsibility), as well as the snubbing of science (in schooling and environmental issues).
