Tasering kids

Now legal in the UK

While I disagree, I must say that I have encountered some of the most unruly kids I've ever met in the UK, so on some level I can sympathize. But not really, because this, I think, is really bad social policy. Putting tasers in the hands of police crowds out the possibility of other, non-violent, techniques to bring order.

I don't know. I'm torn on this one. The fact is that police usually have means of violence at their disposal: guns and billy clubs. I've never been tasered and don't want to be, but I think I'd rather get that then clubbed or shot. I think it's better that they have a range of violent action that they can take, a range that has a lower end.

That said, if they begin to regard the taser as something that allows them to lower the bar for when violence is permitted, it could be a problem.

I think that the only way to answer this may be to introduce it for a limited length of time in some areas and then look at the stats about use of violence. If tasering is replacing the use of the billy club, then I say keep it on. If it is replacing stern talking and serious warnings, then it should go.
