The new survey found that 63 percent of Americans said they found the NSA program to be an acceptable way to investigate terrorism, including 44 percent who strongly endorsed the effort. Another 35 percent said the program was unacceptable, which included 24 percent who strongly objected to it.Damn. I was in the middle of a group-think where everyone assumed that the US felt the same about the NSA wiretapping as I did... This makes the wiretapping story much less explosive than I had hoped it would be.
A slightly larger majority--66 percent--said they would not be bothered if NSA collected records of personal calls they had made, the poll found.

I don't know what to think about the program, mainly because there seems to be very little information about how it is conducted.
I can imagine a basic scenario: where in the instance they eveasdrop on a call originating from outside the US (which they have been allowed to do), and lets say they suspect that the originating call is from a terrorist, the next obvious thing to pursue is to find out who the person in the US is calling within the US. To find out who these 'friends-of-terrorists' are, you would need a database of calling records. It seems straightforward, and valuable info. The question is oversite, which I have not read anything about.
Great site loved it alot, will come back and visit again.
